We were blessed enough to get to have 2 evenings and 1 full day in Thailand on our way out of Cambodia and into Africa. I figured this would be a fun short blog so here’s a recap of our day in Thailand.
I hung out with Ella, Nick M, Skylar, and Kailey all day. Our plan was originally to go to the gulf of Thailand but after trouble with finding a drop off location and 2 grab drivers not working out, we decided against that idea. Though it sounded fun, we knew we could find other things to do. God’s hand was so evidently on us with timing and situations for the rest of the day, it was so cool. First we were walking and Kailey mentioned wanting to stop at a coffee shop. We look to our left just to see a beautiful coffee shop right there. After we got one of the best strawberry smoothies in life, a tuktuk taxi pulls up in perfect timing where He ended up driving us to the “Bangkok Butterfly Garden & Insectarium”. We stopped by there and I got to hold one of the most beautiful butterfly’s I’ve ever seen. Not only that, but we saw so many gorgeous flowers everywhere and I got some really cool pictures of God’s creation. We walked around that whole park to find more nature, lots of Asian water monitors and a perfect climbing tree. Once we explored enough, we continued on our walk and stumbled across their city park with lots of intriguing outdoor workout (?) activities. Whatever it was, it was fun to play on…:). Then we found ourselves in the train station… somehow someway. We all agreed on a spontaneous train ride until we came to the conclusion we have no clue where we are, where we are going, or how to get tickets. A European friend overheard us and asked if we would like his assistance. He explained each stop, the area, and essentially booked our tickets. That was a blessing! Once we figured out how to get on, we rode half of the way and got off thinking it was our stop… after some map searching we found our actual stop. So we hopped back on but while waiting, Ella got whistled at by the security for laying on the ground. A Muslim friend came and laughed it off with us and shared how he got whistled at as well due to vaping. Well turns out we were getting on the same train and got to share our knowledge of Jesus with him while he told us his Muslim beliefs. It was such a good conversation and Kailey ended it with prophesying over him. Next, we somehow ended up about a 30 minute walk to the mall…. Which was a stop we wanted to make at some point. So we walked there and got a taste of the city on the way… plus some good conversations!! We got some Thai food in the mall, of course, then we’decided to go ice skating. This is one of the top 10 biggest malls in the world, so yes it did have an ice skating arena. We did it for 1 hour and that was so so fun! Definitely a good little taste of home!! Then we stopped by a Thai market…. (Very similar to Cambodian) before finding a tuktuk who would take the remainder of our cash to get us back to our hostel. We did it, the Lord provided, and we were able to have extra time to spare before heading off to the airport! We thought about taking the train there but decided on a grab. One of my favorite parts of today was that i got to spend so much time with not only some of my favorite people but a lot of people I haven’t gotten to hang out with on the race much.
We headed out at 1:30 AM to Ethiopia followed by South Africa for our 5 day debrief! Next stop, Eswatini!
